How do I create a Helix account?

You create a Helix account after you’ve made a purchase through Helix or when you register a DNA collection kit. It’s easy and only takes a couple of minutes. Visit helix.com/start with your Kit ID on hand to create your account and register your DNA collection kit.

How do I register my DNA collection kit?

To register your DNA collection kit, go to helix.com/start. The kit must be registered before it is sent to our lab for processing. If you’d like a little more guidance, watch this helpful video that will walk you through the entire process slowly and step-by-step.

How do I find my Kit ID?

Your Kit ID is located in a green rectangle on the inside cover of your DNA collection kit box.

How do I select which emails I receive?

You can opt out of receiving emails from Helix though your account settings.

Is there a difference between buying Geno 2.0 Next Generation through Helix or through the National Geographic website?

No. In either case, you will receive a Helix DNA collection kit, get sequenced, and have your genetic information stored by Helix so that National Geographic can analyze the ancestry-relevant portion of your DNA and provide your results.

I already have a National Geographic account. Do I need to create a Helix account?

Yes. In order for Helix to process your saliva sample, we need to know who it belongs to. By creating an account and registering your DNA collection kit, you allow us to link your genetic information to your account.

How do I change my profile information like privacy and communication settings?

Go to your account settings and sign in with your Helix account.

Can I close my Helix account?

Yes. If you no longer want to purchase products through Helix, you may close your account in your account settings. When closing an account, Helix keeps your genetic information and some order history data (related to contact and transactions) for regulatory compliance purposes. For more details, please see the “Account Closure” section of our Privacy Policy.

Can I register multiple DNA collection kits to a single Helix account?

No. To help protect the privacy of both your genetic and personal information, only one DNA collection kit can be registered to one Helix account. However, you can easily create a new Helix account with an email address that hasn’t already been used for Helix.

Can I use the same email address to create multiple Helix accounts?

No. To make sure DNA insights are received by the person for whom they’re intended, an email address can only be used once to create a Helix account. 

How do I make sure I've successfully registered my DNA collection kit?

Simply sign in to the Helix account you used to register your kit. If you see a product listed in the “Products & information use” section of the page, your kit has been successfully registered to your account. 

I'm getting errors when trying to verify my email address, reset my password, or sign in to my account. What can I do?
